Our work was meticulously started in the year 2001-2002 by surveying (click here to view survey report) this predominantly poor, uneducated and backward area of village Doiwala, Dehra Dun. As a pilot program the Koshish Foundation team toiled for months at end to gather the data on the types of community, kinds of religion and norms of the people of this village.
After the comprehensive study of the area was conducted, it was found that the community consisted of mainly OBCs (Other Backward Classes) that is the Jojhas of the Muslim Community, the Nais, of the Salmani Community, the Dhobis, the Gujjars, the Lodhi, the Telis, the Julahe, the Saini of the Sikh community, the Kashyaps of the Jheenvars, the Ansaris of the Muslim community, the Manihars, the Kasais of the Muslim community, the Bati, the Gorkhas and the Banjares.

After studying the area and the dire needs of the girls/women of these communities, we decided to register our society under the society's registration act of 1860 in the name of Koshish Foundation as an educational and vocational centre on Kheri Road, Daoiwala, Dehra Dun. At the beginning our school was touching only the area of Markham Panchayat with the population of 19,812, out of the total of 1,26,170 people. The overwhelming response from the rest of the surrounding Panchayats have made us increase the respondents to nearly 75% of the total population. In gaining this kind of success the age, mindset of the girls, the families they belong to, ways and means to convince them to join the school and many other psychological, financial, religious and emotional factors had to be accounted for.
After the completion of the 7,000 Sq. Ft. of building on lush green landscaped area of 5 acres the search for faculty and other staff members started. After auditioning hundreds of candidates for different requirements a team of professional teachers, embroiders, knitters, social workers and administrative staffs were selected. Today we have nearly a staff and faculty of more than 25 people on our roles with Ms. Abha Sandlas Chandana heading the team as the principle.
All this was possible with the help, guidance, co-operation and blessings of our friends, well-wishers and of course the wonderful people of the village Doiwala, Dehra Dun.
